Outermost Regions Forum 2020 “Together for a sustainable future”

The Outermost Regions Forum is a high-level dialogue platform for the nine outermost regions of the European Union – Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Mayotte, Reunion Island, Saint-Martin (France), the Azores, Madeira (Portugal) and the Canary Islands (Spain), their Member States, the European Union institutions and civil society. 

This event brings together the Presidents of the outermost regions, Ministers from their Member States, the Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms and other members of the Commission, stakeholders and experts interested in learning from the experience of these special EU regions.

The 2020 Forum will take stock of the unprecedented challenging situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and its strong socio-economic impact on the outermost regions. It will discuss these regions’ post Covid-19 needs, and identify recovery solutions at European, national or regional level to deliver a targeted response to the crisis, focusing on the most impacted sectors, such as tourism, transport, employment and agriculture.

In line with the European Green Deal, the Forum will further focus in particular on three major themes for the outermost regions: climate change, circular economy and blue economy, which will play a key role in these regions’ economic recovery. Adapting to climate change and protecting biodiversity, introducing circular economy and developing a sustainable blue economy will be crucial for the outermost regions to boost their resilience and sustainable recovery.

The 2020 Outermost Regions Forum will be a virtual event held over the afternoons of 12, 13 and 14 October 2020 from Brussels.
