The media seminar “Europe for Aviation” will take place from 9 to 11 March 2020, back-to-back with the World Air Traffic Management Congress in Madrid, Spain, from 10 to 12 March 2020. The Congress is the largest international ATM conference, which attracts over 8,000 people.
Decarbonising aviation is an absolute priority and central to achieving the European Green Deal. It requires improving efficiency across the whole aviation system, and in particular through completing the Single European Sky. By reducing the fragmentation of Europe’s airspace, the Single European Sky will improve how the air traffic management system (ATM) functions in terms of safety, capacity, cost-efficiency and environment. At our seminar, you will hear about these many components of the Commission’s Aviation Strategy for Europe, as well as its implementation under the auspices of the new Commission.
The objective of the seminar is to allow media from all Member States to learn about EU-funded, innovative solutions for the Single European Sky and the Aviation Strategy for Europe. The seminar will also be the opportunity to increase awareness of EU policy on aviation under the new EU Commission which made it clear that transport has an important contribution to make in harnessing the potential of the twin climate and digital transitions while remaining affordable and maintaining highest safety levels.
Media will have the chance to meet high-level representatives from several European organisations working on aviation (civil and military), such as Henrik Hololei (Director-General of DG MOVE, European Commission), Eamonn Brennan (Director-General of EUROCONTROL), Florian Guillermet (Executive Director SESAR JU) as well as representatives from SESAR DM, European Defence Agency and others.
The seminar will explain the progress of the EU's Aviation Strategy and the EU's efforts to boost new technologies & services the Single European Sky and air mobility. The journalists will be introduced to the subjects by high level EU experts and will have the possibility to attend panels. They will have the occasion, exclusively for what concerns their country/field of expertise, to meet the high-level EU aviation experts.
